Lage
Als die antike Landschaft βTaurisβ wird im Bildungsdeutschen gemeinhin die Halbinsel Krim im Schwarzen Meer angenommen (so in Goethes Iphigenie auf Tauris und in Gustav Schwabs einflussreichen Sagen des klassischen Altertums). Als deren UrbevΓΆlkerung galten die Taurer, nach ihnen nannten die altgriechischen Quellen die Krim die βTaurische Halbinselβ (ChersΓ³nesos TaurikΓ©) oder das βLand der Tauroiβ (vgl. die TragΓΆdie Euripidesβ Iphigenie bei den Taurern).
Die Antike kannte eine geografische Bezeichnung βTaurisβ vermutlich einzig fΓΌr die dalmatische Insel Ε Δedro sΓΌdlich von Hvar in Kroatien (so N. Ε tuk, J. J. Wilkes).cite-ref-1[1] FΓΌr das Land der Taurer dΓΌrfte es ein Neologismus des 18. Jahrhunderts sein (analog zu βDorisβ bzw. βPhokisβ).
